Connect Groups

The backbone of our life together.

There are about 25 Connect Groups of up to a dozen people meeting in different locations, and at different times, in the parish and beyond for bible study, prayer and mutual care and support. We encourage every church member to be “connected” to a group (even if they are not always able to attend). Janet McLean and Janet Goodenough together co-ordinate our groups, and they are the people to contact if you want to find a suitable group.

Spring 2024

Sunday 14th January

Sermon: Temptation of Jesus (11.15am)
Passage: Matthew 4: 1-17
  1. What exactly is temptation and in what ways do we see Jesus tempted?
  2. "The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist" (actually a quote from The Usual Suspects)... so how does the account of Jesus temptation bring into sharper focus the reality of temptation, the Devil and spiritual warfare? (cf. 1 Peter 5:8)
  3. How might the nature of temptations change or remain the same over time? How might they be different for new and for mature Christians? (cf. consider Hebrews 12:1-6 as an encouragement to keep going!)
  4. How does Jesus overcome temptation? How is his example and the 'tools' he uses instructive for us?
  5. How practically might we encourage one another to resist temptation? How does Jesus encourage us? (cf. Hebrews 4:15)
Extra: What does James 1:2-18 teach us about temptation? Noting especially v.13-15 and the way in which 'trials' and 'temptations' are used interchangably.

Sunday 7th January

Sermon: Baptism of Jesus (11.15am)
Passage: Matthew 3: 13-17
  1. In what ways did we see the fulfilment of Isaiah 42 in Jesus' baptism?
  2. How might you use the account of Jesus' baptism to explain to someone new to church who Jesus is and why he came? Is he really about to 'fix the world' and to 'fix me'?
  3. If the verdict from heaven "You are my beloved child, with you I am well pleased" is true for Christians as it was for the Son...
    • How does that change your view of God? What is this God like?
    • How does that change your view of yourself? How does this shape and define me?
  4. How does Jesus' baptism prepare him for his temptation (Matt. 4) and what truths will help you in times of trial?
  5. Jesus is announced as the bringer of justice and righteousness for me and the whole world. How might this announcement encourage and steer the way we seek to 'do justice' in the world today?
To explore further the Old Testament background of Righteousness/Justice have a watch of this Bible Project video.

At All Saints Lindfield we try to cater for people of all ages, from the very youngest child to the oldest adult. We have a range of Sunday services and midweek activities which aims to encourage people with different needs and at different stages of life.

Our highest priority is to equip, encourage and build up mature and effective Christians who will be examples of Christ-like living. We therefore place a high emphasis on prayer, worship and Bible teaching.

We hope very much that you will join us!

Rev. Dr. Steve Nichols, Vicar

Who we are

All Saints is an anglican church with a strong evangelical tradition serving the parish of Lindfield in the Diocese of Chichester in West Sussex.

Although we are a local church, we are also committed to supporting God's work further afield - through the Sussex Gospel Partnership and through our many mission partners who are involved in mission work in this country and across the world.

Hugh LeadingOur aim is to be a welcoming Christian community, embodying as well as proclaiming the gospel of God.
Our belief as a church is grounded in the teaching of the Bible, the inspired Word of God. We joyfully acknowledge Jesus as our Saviour and try to follow him day-to-day as our Lord. We are not a perfect church, but we are trying, by God's grace, to grow in faith, hope and love each day. Our aim, therefore, is to be a disciple-making church, building up and growing mature followers of Christ who will be his witnesses in the world.
